TRTFN Land and Resources Department

Aboriginal Rights and Title;

This department's primary responsibility is to protect Taku River Tlingit Aboriginal Rights and Title.

This largely means that we are forced to work with other governments in processes that they are using for making decisions about TRT Land and Resources.  This means that those processes are imposed on the First Nation - and we must do our best to protect ourselves and our future - even though others are not always willing to take the Tlingit concerns seriously.  More and more the Common Law is helping to provide some legal means for the TRTFN to protect their land and resources from irresponsible development.

Currently the TRTFN representatives are involved in Government to Government processes - so far we know there is still a great deal of work to do to help others understand and accept the TRTFN authority in Taku Tlingit Territory.

 See below for quick facts on major projects or processes!

The TRTFN is participating in the Southern Lakes Wildlife Coordinating Committee (SLWCC), which deals with wildlife management in the southern lakes region in the Yukon, including our Traditional Territory.  The link to their website is: http://www.yfwcm.ca/slwcc/
