The Tlingit Family Learning Centre is the home of quality day care for infants and toddlers of Atlin parents. The Building is currently being moved to its permanent home on a new foundation with a full basement overlooking a pond at the edge of the Tlingit Village. The TFLC has doubled this summer with 10 little people learning Tlingit at 5 Mile Point Culture Camp, and the very little tykes continuing at the village house. Culture camp provides plenty of outdoor life, nature based crafts, games, and maybe even some smoking of fish. It is never too early to learn this traditional preserving method. The staff, aim for the children to learn 30 Tlingit words over the summer, Keyawk (Louise Parker), Skuwateen (Violet McKay), Sheetixduoo (Lorraine Dawson) and David Thorn. June celebrated three little ones - Cailyn Fraser, Brittany Wesley and Levi Kohlman - graduating from preschool and entering the Kindergarden program in September. Preschool children continue their commitment to fundraising for a children's orphanage in Tanzania, including a weekly Tuesday bake sale (it sells out fast!) of goodies baked by the preschoolers themselves. Registration for the fall program is Tuesday, Sept 1 and Wed, Sept 2. Please call the officer to register: 651-7739. The regular program will be closed that week. First day of the School Year at the TFLC is Tuesday, September 8.
